Cheb is a famous town with a complex of eleven unique merchant houses from the 13th century on the old square and the nearby castle ruin. The city lies about 5 km from the German border and about half an hour drive from the world-famous spa Karlovy Vary. The first historical mention dates back to 1061 and until the end of the Second World War, the majority of the inhabitants of the city and its surroundings were German. Cheb played an important part of the Sudetenland. Today it is the largest industrial city of West Bohemia.

The Cheb castle is the only imperial residence of the Stauf imperial family in the Czech territory from the beginning of the 12th century! Till this day only the torso, the defensive Black Tower and, above all, the unique double Romanesque-Gothic Chapel of St. Martin, Erhard and Ursula had remained. Another landmark of Cheb is Spalicek, which is one of the main symbols of Cheb architecture that stands on the historic square of King George of Poděbrady. The construction of the eleven merchant houses began in the 13th century, and due to the lack of space, the buildings were square and built-in height. On the square, you will find well-preserved houses of important personalities and rich families.
