Discover the unique historical town of Karlovy Vary, known for its world-class thermal spa and the city of renowned glass and porcelain. According to a legend, the city was founded in the middle of the 14th century by the Emperor Charles IV. after the accidental discovery of the local thermal springs in the untouched nature. The quality of the local mineral water has remained constant over the centuries and are still used to cleanse the body and treat digestive tract diseases. This unique water from around the Ore Mountains is now sold under various brands to 20 different countries around the world. While you are wandering through the marvellous city centre, you can't miss trying the local herbal liqueur Becherovka, which is nicked named as the 13th spring of Karlovy Vary, or you can try the traditional spa wafers. Every year you can see many famous actors and actresses here in Karlovy Vary during the annual International Film Festival among them Julianne Moore, Uma Thurman, Richard Gere, Mel Gibson, John Travolta, Antonio Banderas, Jean Reno, Helen Mirren and many more! On the way through the spa area, you can stop at any of the 15 Mineral springs available to the public and that emerge from a depth of approximately 2500m. However, it is not recommended to drink any quantities unless you are undergoing a special treatment as prescribed by your doctor. The historic city spa buildings were numbered after 1918. Of the original six, four have been preserved till nowadays but only two serve their original purpose. The Imperial Spa (Spa I) was built at the end of the 19th century and contained 120 special bathrooms and cabins, an imperial bath and the Zander Hall. In 2010, the spa building became a national cultural monument and is expected to be reopened. In the Kurhaus (Spa III) you can use the swimming pool, the steam and carbonic baths or peat wraps. Nove Lazne (Spa IV) currently serves as a shopping centre. Elizabeth's Spa (Spa V) bears the name of Empress Elisabeth of Bavaria (Sissi) and is still in operation, offering various treatments or a swimming pool. Unfortunately, other spas have not been preserved, but most of the hotels have their own wellness facilities with other 65 natural springs in Karlovy Vary.

During your walks, you will also notice the Orthodox Church of Saint Peter and Paul with golden domes or the nearby Anglican Church of Saint Luke and Church of Mary Magdalene that is located directly next to the Hot Spring. On the way from the spa centre, you can walk along T.G.Maryaryka Street, where there are many shops and cafes along the way to the Becher Museum, where you can take a guided tour of interesting production history ending with a tasting.
